Our Story
Tinklings at the Lamb and Flag
Everyone deserves access to great live classical music. At Tinklings events we nab wonderful performers between concert hall performances, and bring them to within a few feet of your pint glass. 40 seats, FREE for everyone to join us.
Alongside our informal concert series we also offer you the chance to experience the music from the inside. Fancy playing with the pros? Join our Classical Ceilidh night. Why not bring your kids to get hands-on at one of our children's gigs? Or maybe dust off your sketch pad and come to Draw the Music, for a little sublime musical inspiration.
The series was founded by Catherine Morgan, a violinist with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and ASMF has been at the heart of the development of Tinklings from the outset. We were delighted to be awarded a Marriner Award to get things up and running, many of our lovely guest players have ASMF links, and you can also find our events listed at www.asmf.org.
We are so lucky to be based at Oxford's iconic Lamb and Flag pub, which has long been a place where people meet to enjoy great company, and exchange ideas. Our name is a nod to the Inklings writers Tolkien, CS Lewis and friends, who met to discuss their work here, nearly 100 years ago. And also to the community group CIC who got together to bring the pub new life in the early 2020s. Thanks to the new 'Inklings' the venue is once again a wonderful home for writers, artists, thinkers, and friends.
Watch out for Tinklings gigs on the road too. So far we have been part of Westminster's Inside Out Festival, The Soho Society's 50th Summer fete and ASMF's Sacred Sounds series, and delivered fun and collaborative workshops for schools and holiday music programmes, for children in England and Wales.
